Valentines Day’s Surprises

I was looking through my Valentine’s posts to see what I used to say on the last few ones for the few years I’ve been blogging. Honestly though, since my birthday is 2 weeks before, or thereabout, Valentines day has never been a day that I’m really keen on. It’s still Birthday month, the excitement is still there. Plus, I think it’s over rated. And so does my boyfriend.

Because, I’m of this school of thought, “if he/she doesn’t show you or display love every other day, why choose one day to do it?” That’s my reservation. I’ve always thought love is something that’s consistent, always. Whether you’re happy or mad, love is somewhere in there. It’s not a one day thing. Then again, maybe that’s the day that the world choose to acknowledge love in a loud way. With a touch of red to signify some passion of sorts, so I’m not complaining.

For me, it’s always a normal day because, well, nothing about me really changes. We’re still handling the same stuff, loving the same people, so there’s nothing to hate about the day. Besides, it’s always nice to wish someone something fun and different like #HappyValentines. I think I told everyone I talked to on phone #HappyValentines until my office desk-mate was like, what’s up with that? But, Why not that? It’s an act of kindness and concern. Ha! I’m that babe.

Anyhow, the boyfriend, who is not for all things valentines, like me. Now that we share a birthday and as mentioned above, excitement is still on board. He really surprised me. Let’s start with the part that, everyone knows I’m not a big fan of roses or anything that calls for attention, and flowers really do. They make me cringe,  feel like hiding under the table and many other things that shy people feel yes internally, I’m very shy. He’d didn’t take that too seriously, thank God, or he chose to try and see my reaction, I don’t know. But, he sent flowers over, with a card and my favorite white chocolates *slurp*.

How it unfolded: The cleaning lady came over to tell me I have a visitor. I didn’t have any meetings booked for that time of the day. So I ask her, “a dude or a chic” and she’s like “a dude” of course not in that lingo, but “a man”. Ai! And she goes like “he also has a package”. Haha, I didn’t expect a visitor and especially not one with a package. But I’m nice I really am, vanity, so I decided, “let me just go confirm that it’s Kawira not Kawiria”. People have a habit of confusing those two names.

I go to the reception, and I see a bouquet of roses, with a card and chocolates O_o. I’m not saying that my boo ain’t romantic or anything, he is. But that package, we’re not valentines people, at least not like that. I’d even let him off on such. My birthday and Christmas, those are a no brainer, but valentines, nah, that can pass. Then I see his handwriting on the card, but I still need to confirm the name and phone number, you know, just in case.

And, they were MINE! I once said I hate flowers and surprises but all that hate flew out of the window. I love flowers and surprises, from him, I more than love them. That was a super surprise. He wins!

Later on in the evening, we went for dinner at Peppers Restaurant with our friends. He was our valentine’s date, that was 4 and ½ (our little Diva) girls, with lots of good food and laughter. Nothing beats sharing that with friends, it’s a day not necessarily just for couples, but also for friends too. Show them some love, because they are all-so-deserving. Enough to call it a day perhaps because I was too full, but not to full to do an informal photo shoot at the parking lot. And that wrapped up the week. How was your day?

To make your weekend even better, here’s a link to a play list. It’s everything … for a pop & R&B head like me! You can try the 2014 one after.

Have an amazing weekend. Lot’s of love, light & peace from the person behind the screen.

Of Roses and Love

It’s about sharing, being selfless, forgiving and looking beyond our weaknesses and flaws. These are the few things that make us love less or even not like the day that gives the slightest hint of love. Love is a beautiful thing, and it doesn’t mean because I say that it doesn’t have its downside. Oh, it does. Once you expose yourself to it, it’s like you’re lying in the middle of the road hoping no truck runs you down. Or handing out your heart to someone and hoping they handle it with care.

What are the chances are that a truck will run you down but there’s one that will notice that there’s something that’s making you do this, and they get off to find out what it is before taking figuring out what to do with you. What are the chances that they’ll squash your heart, because it either doesn’t fit into their hand well, or it fits well but at first they’ll have some trouble as they could squash your heart a little here and there not because they want to hurt you, but because they’re trying to figure out to handle it, then with time, they know how to handle it with the care it deserves.

Basically, love has it moments. When it’s so rosy, that all you can do is smell it and smile with the world because of how good it makes you feel. When it’s so thorny, that all it does is poke you and make you pout because of how sad it makes you feel.

Love endures it all. It’s in the beauty of the rose petals and the harshness of the thorns that makes a rose what is, a beautiful flower. It’s also through the feel-good moments and the pouting moments, that makes love what is, true love. So you could be smelling the roses or being poked by thorns, but as long as you have love, you’re doing it right. Also remember it’s all about sharing, being selfless, forgiving and looking beyond your flaws.

A rose doesn’t impact anyone unless its shared (given out), it’s not so much that it’s a rose but it’s what it make you feel when you receive it, you won’t see it’s beauty unless you forgive it for having thorns that could poke you and despite its color, shape, number of petals it remains a rose and that’s what people see.

Happy Valentine’s Day Fellas and Ladies! On that note, I got a surprise I wasn’t quite expecting … YUMMERS! Some Belgium Chocolates and delish cupcakes, man got game! I was totally caught off-guard. If I was to give him brownie points for this, he gets 25 points for catching me off-guard, considering he’s the anti-valentines day kind of guy I’m thinking yeah right…lol, am sure he went out of his usual way to make a girl happy, then 50 points for making me feel special.

Chocolate and Cupcakes

Lastly, 5 points for no roses, they give me the creeps. I can’t handle that attention the bouquet comes with, unless I don’t have to carry them around or we’re getting them for aesthetics. What do you think of this day by the way. Are you anti or pro Valentine’s Day? and of roses?

The Human Side

I was perusing through my twitter and Facebook timeline earlier in the day just to catch up with current news and know what’s going with the people around and not so around me. You know, kind of like that lap of honour the watchman takes in the estate every so often, sometimes to make sure that everything and everyone is secure, then other time just to get the estate gossip first-hand.

Social Tools

At some point, I found myself laughing at what I was doing because from a few updates and photos I get to find out so much about different people. Like this person got married, got a baby, broke up, is having a rough day or an amazing day, is dating someone among other things.  From those updates, you want to dig just a bit deeper to know when that happened, what’s been going on, who are those other people, do I know them, if not just maybe I can get a sneak peek of who they are.

All this while, that is none of my business. I mean, it shall not add any value to my life if I knew how an acquaintance is progressing, whether he/she is happy, sad, dating, expecting. Unless of course it’s something that requires complements, sympathy or my contribution, otherwise, I’m just being nosy trying to satisfy the ever-growing curiosity.

That’s just the social sites, how about the magazines we buy every month to read someone’s story. Or for those of us who don’t buy because we have them at the salon and we spend the entire time reading about other people, what they’ve been through, what they are going through, how they live and what they do. For those who are not curious readers. I can bet you can find yourself getting updates on people through conversation, not necessarily people you know, it could be people you probably know by proxy or even some you don’t know at all and whose information you don’t necessarily need, but sure does sound interesting or you can relate to in one way or another.

I then figured that the essence of all these social tools both off-line and on-line  is to enable us to show our human side. The vulnerable side that we so much want to hide but feels better when let it out or when we see that we are not alone in certain situations. To some extent the social bit is like a survival tactic in a world that’s sometimes so technical and mechanical.

Even after this thought, I wouldn’t want to stop being curious or knowing things that sometimes I have no business knowing. I could learn something from it *perfect excuse*. However, I will equate social tools to a buffet that offers a choice of delicious dishes. It’s now my role to decide what I’ll serve on my plate, how much of it, how I’ll chew it and how much time I’ll spend on that meal. For example I choose Facebook, I’ll go through my timeline but be smart enough not to become “mouse happy” and click away into people’s profiles/pictures I don’t know or snoop into an update.

I think knowing is good, we were born curious and wanting to be all-knowing. However, sometimes we get greedy and what to know everything even the irrelevant (unimportant) which in turn takes up the time that could be used to do other important things *says this pointing to self*. Strive to know what you think will give you a competitive edge, build you as an individual, enable you to help/minister/inspire someone else and so on, at least something with a purpose, but if it’s knowing just for *poking your nose* purposes you’re allowed to judge yourself … very harshly*wink*

Our most precious human gift: The wonder of curiosity. The insatiable thirst to know more about what we know … and to speculate about what we don’t — and to explore this vast realm. ~ David Bin

Valentines Day

Now that it’s tomorrow, what will guys be up to? Just looking at my previous Feb 14th posts (here and here) and the three things that  stand out are:

  • I was single
  • I did believe in love, the love that the bible describes in 1st Corinthians 13
  • The day was just another day in the life of Kawi

This time round, let’s see what’s changed about that:

  • I am not single, we’re double trouble *woop woop*
  • I definitely still strongly believe in love, the same kind of love. Plus my “guinea pig” to experiment it on…lol
  • I don’t intend on making a big deal out of the day, never have. Buuut, am not one to refuse anything special that comes my way in any form or gesture and vice versa.

Happy Hump Day Comrades and Pre-Valentines Day just in case I get caught up tomorrow.

This L.O.V.E Thing

This L.O.V.E thing

What do you mean when you say it?

Where does it come from?

What faculty registers it?

How do you say it?

When is the right time to say it?

Who do you say it to?

Do they appreciate it when you say it?

What do you feel when you have love?

Well, this love has a way of making you question everything. The who, what, when, where, how? In my view, love is supposed to be unconditional, it’s not supposed to arouse doubt. You don’t really have to say it for one to know that you love them, sometimes it’s all in the actions more than in the words. Saying it is just a form of affirmation, to make known what is already known and felt.

My reference for love is always the bible. That’s the definition of love that makes the most sense, it’s what I like relating to.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love ~ 1st Corinthians 13:13

Don’t we all look love directly or indirectly from our family, friends, spouses? Yes, it does make your world go round, believe it or not. So embrace it everyday after all even God is love. Don’t be embarrassed or ashamed to love, I think it’s a pretty admirable quality.

Now that my friend sent me this, that’s what we are celebrating today *insert cheeky grin* it’s never that serious. I mean not all of us have ‘valentine dates’ so we might as well embrace the situation…lol

Song of the day

Is’n’t Toya DeLazy just amazing! That’s my psyche song for the day —–> “The more I know, the more I grow cause life is beautiful I don’t regret this road. I’ve lived to know one life, one love, one flow you just gotta know. You know this life can crush your goals you gotta know you’re not alone. It’s in your mind you jail your soul fly free and live life”

Quote of the day

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails” ~ 1 Corinthians 13:4

Okay let me just suck it up. Happy Valentines *choke* Day to all my people, said with lot’s L.O.V.E … xo!
